Project Services > Building > Regional Building > Sandwell Emergency Centre Sandwell Emergency Centre - ProCure21 for Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust The intial brief for this project was to rebuild the arson damaged Accident and Emergency Unit at Sandwell Hospital in the West Midlands. The Trust appointed Interserve Health under ProCure21 and took the opportunity to revisit their entire estate development strategy. As a result, the Interserve team carried out a Development Control Plan study, with the results validated in a large-scale value management workshop, involving most clinical stakeholders. This produced agreement that simple replacement of the A&E facility was not the solution and a revised plan for a new Emergency Centre was agreed, incorporating a chest pains clinic. The flexibility of the P21 approach enabled Trust requirements to be changed without penalty and the project team used value engineering techniques to identify savings which brought cost planning for the revised scheme in line with OBC cost levels. Work on demolition quickly began and enabling works to replace the destroyed single-storey building with a brand new three-storey facility, linking to the existing hospital. Despite the proximity of theatres/imaging and outpatients areas, the project has been delivered with minimal disruption with Departmental Heads being kept constantly informed by Interserve's Liaison Officer. Procurement Route: Framework / Partnering/Collaborative Sector: Health Value: £13 million |
